Varsity boys basketball keep up winning streak
The varsity boys basketball team are now 19-0 overall and 3-0 in district. They have two respective tournament titles under their belt and are atop of district 2-5A. Also another positive thing to add in this young season, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches have ranked Bel Air fourth in the state. That’s the highest ranking of any school in El Paso.
Leading the way for the Highlanders is the dynamic duo of senior point guard Josh Gallegos and senior forward Jordan Enriquez.
Gallegos was voted preseason 2nd team All-State according to Texas Basketball Magazine. Gallegos was also voted a top 5 preseason player to watch. Up to this point he hasn’t disappointed. He is averaging 20 games and was also voted All-Tournament team for the Mcdonald’s Classic tournament.
On the other hand Jordan was also named a top five preseason player to watch. He is averaging 19 points a game and was also named to the Mcdonalds Classic All Tournament team.
Junior guard Isaiah Acosta is determined to make it far in the playoffs.
“We have been working real hard this season. We are not stopping here and we are going to continue to dominate and continue our success onto the Texas state playoffs.”
Junior guard Sergio Enriquez agrees with Acosta.
“We feel confident this season and we are working as a unit. I feel like this is the season for us,” Enriquez said.
Junior forward Isaiah Aguilera is confident about his team’s performance.
“When we bring our A-game there isnt anybody that has been able to beat us. We show determination and always find a way to pull through and win games,” Aguilera said.
The Highlanders are now 6-0 in district. The Highlanders look to continue their winning streak against the Ysleta Indians on tonight at Dibler Gym. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
