“The Martian” Review
The Martian is nothing short of Hollywood magic at its best. The movie displayed today’s best visual effects, with many heart pounding and out of this world scenes.
The movie has attracted many great reviews, and is rated a fresh tomato (93 percent) on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is a modern classic that everyone deserves to see. With many more great reviews many people flocked to the theater, as a result the movie made $428.4 million worldwide as of Nov. 1.
Not only is it action packed, but it’s also filled with comedic relief, thanks to the star-studded cast. The long list of celebrities include comics such as, Kristen Wiig (“Saturday Night Live”) and Jeff Daniels (“Dumb and Dumber I and II”). The cast also include actors such as Matt Damon ,who plays the main actor, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Sean Bean. With many successful actors, the movie is elevated even higher.
The movie follows botanist, Mark Watney, who gets stranded on the Red Planet after his team leaves in order to avoid a storm that can interfere with their take off. He is left however with 300 sols (Mar’s version of the Earth’s day) worth of food inside the team’s artificial habitat (Hab). Watney plans to catch a ride on the next manned mission, the problem is the mission is three years away. With the short amount of food he draws up plans to grow potatoes in the Hab. The rest of the movie depicts his successes and challenge on Mars. If anyone wants to know what happens next make sure to catch the film before it exits the theaters.
Being that it’s a space movie, a decent amount of out of this world special effects is almost required. The Martian had nothing short of that. It displayed stunning imageries of the planet as well as space to create realistic environment for viewers to enjoy. The special effects might even rival that of “Gravity,” another successful space movie franchise.
On a final note, the movie made news not only for it’s plot but for its accuracy as well. After countless research with and on NASA, the filmmakers not only made the movie epic but educational, a great excuse to watch it.
All in all, the movie was an exceptional 9/10.
