Varsity Boys Basketball faces Ysleta tonight
The varsity boys basketball team holds on to second place in district with a 18-2 overall record and a 5-1 district record. The district wins came against Eastlake, Del Valle and Hanks, Parkland and Riverside.
The only district loss came after a very questionable call made by the refs late in the fourth quarter that gave Horizon a 39-38 win. The winning score appeared to be 38-37 in Bel Air’s favor but was overturned when Horizon appeared to score on a buzzer beater. The other loss was on at the Austin High School tournament against New Mexico Onate.The next game is at Ysleta on Friday.
Senior guard, Romeo Johnson, was excited after a big game Tuesday night against Riverside, which they won 66-38.
“Seeing the crowd hyped after I dunked it, and after I shook No. 3 was one of the best feelings ever. Winning and playing with my teammates is an even better feeling.”
Senior point guard, Sergio Enriquez, is looking forward to Friday.
“We have to keep working hard and playing how we have been. We have momentum, and we gotta keep it rolling against Ysleta.”
Senior center Ruben Mendoza is ready for Friday’s matchup against Ysleta.
“I feel like we’re ready. We just have to play our game and stay confident.”
The away matchup against Ysleta on Friday will be the first time they play this season in district. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
