JV Football starts off season with a win
The JV Highlander football squad capped off a win against the Austin Panthers 42-0 on Thursday.
The leading scorer for the game was junior running back Bijan Byrd. He scored two touchdowns in the first half. He was shut down the rest of the game by coaches to preserve him for the upcoming game.
Byrd was pumped on starting the season with a win.
“It felt great to be back and be playing. I’m proud of the way the team played, but we are not satisfied and we want to continue this success throughout the season.”
Sophomore John Diaz, who had a 32-yard touchdown catch, agreed with Byrd.
“Starting the season with a win is a huge confidence booster. We have to get back to work on Monday and prepare for the next game.”
Coach Jacob Alvarado was proud of the JV squad.
“The kids opened up the season on a high note. They were all on the same page, and they all accomplished every task that was asked of them.”
The Highlanders have an away game on Thursday against the Andress Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
