JV football ends season with a win
The JV football team defeated Parkland Thursday, 38-24. That gave them their sixth win of the season and second place in district. Their record was 6-3-1 and district record of 5-1-1. The wins have been against Austin, Riverside, Ysleta, Eastlake, Parkland, Horizon and the tie came against Del Valle. The losses came against Andress, Eastwood and Hanks.
Team captain Steve Weaver is happy with the season outcome.
“The coaches have trusted me to be quarterback and captain, and I have done everything they have asked of me. We wouldn’t be here without them. We have came together since week one and it has shown. We want to carry this momentum next year to varsity.”
Junior Ryan Reza agrees with Weaver.
“Even though we lost key players throughout the year, we haven’t given up and we have been fighting. We have lots of trust in each other. Off season starts tomorrow and our focus is our first varsity campaign.”
Coach Cecilio Porras is happy with the team.
“We fought hard all season and it payed off. We are going to enjoy this win then get ready for off season.”
The Highlanders will continue to practice with the varsity to help them prepare for their playoff game against Chapin High School.
