The freshmen girls basketball team is now 13-0. They have won the only tournament they have participated in. Their last game against Hanks was a blowout considering the size disadvantage the Bel Air girls had. They won 55-17. The girls are 5-0 in district play, leading the district.

Bianca Avalos, the team’s leading scorer, had some positive things to say about her team.

“ Our team is playing very strong right now, but we can’t get too hot-headed. I truly believe our team can make a run for the district title.” Avalos averages 12-15 points a game with 5 assists.

Arlenna Luna  scored 9 points this past game with 3 assists.

“In the beginning of the season we were flying really under the radar. I think we really shocked the district with the level we’ve been playing at,” she said. Luna is the leading scorer among the post players on the team, averaging 8 points a game.

Mariah Velasquez, who is leading the team in three pointers,  would like for her team to play at a higher level.

“Our team is playing at a high level. I don’t think we are a championship caliber team. So with that we must work much more diligently on the court.”

Mariah averages 3 3-pointers a game with 4 assists.

The girls next will play against Horizion Scorpions. On Thursday tip off is at 6 p.m. at Bel Air.
