Alex Carrillo voted teacher of the year
Most of Bel Air knows Alex Carrillo as Big “C,” Coach Carrillo or “That big guy with the really loud and deep voice.” Alex Carrillo teaches art, coaches football and wrestling, and is involved throughout the Bel Air community. He is Bel Air High School’s 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year.
Fellow art teacher Ramiro Ordoñez said of Big “C,” “He is an amazing teacher. He is very involved with his students and Bel Air, and he is dedicated to everything he does.” Big “C” is always willing to help. Whether you are a student, colleague or even a stranger, Big “C” is always willing to help.
Big “C” is the football coach, wrestling coach, and he coaches shot put for track and field. Big “C” is always motivating his student-athletes by saying famous motivational quotes, or just his own words of advice.
Junior wrestler Luis Casas said Carrillo is “A coach like none other.”
John Armbruster who is one of Big “C’s” art colleagues, said, “Big ‘C’ is Big ‘C.’ The man is a character. It is hard to not hear what the man has to say. He is full of energy.”
Coach Carrillo will compete against teachers from all over the district, and, if he makes the finals, then the top 10 teachers from the district. The teacher who is No. 1 will represent the Ysleta Independent School District at state.
“It feels awesome, amazing, and unbelievable. It is truly an awesome feeling,” Carrillo said.
