Wrestling camp
The third annual Bel Air wrestling camp took place May 6 , 7, and 8 in the small gym. More than 50 young people were in attendance.
Head wrestling coach Oscar Norez was the director of this camp and loved the turn out.
“I love doing things like this. It gives our players a chance to give back to the community. Also it gives them a chance to share their knowledge with the youth of this community.” Norez has done this for three consecutive years and plans on keeping this a Bel Air wrestling tradition.
Junior wrestler Tury Ciriza believes helping coach in this camp was a great way to show what his coaches have taught him this past season.
“I believe we have the best coaching staff in the city. The fact that we were able to teach younger kids what we know is great. It was a great opportunity to give back to the community after all it’s done for us.” Ciriza was a second team all-district wrestler.
Freshman Drake Rivas looks forward on coaching at camps like this over his next three years at Bel Air.
“It is great that as a freshman I was able to have the opportunity to coach the young kids. I’m looking forward on doing this throughout my highschool career. It was really a great experience. I loved being around such young and talented faces.” Rivas was one of the three freshman to wrestle varsity this past season and hopes on continuing the legacy left for him.
The approximately $1,000 made from the camp will be able used for new equipment for this coming season.
