JV baseball boys talk about season
The junior varsity boys baseball team pulled off a win against district rival Eastlake 7-6 March 27.
On the mound was Joseph Jurado who had eight strikeouts and two crucial ones in the top of the second when they were down 2-0 and the bases were loaded with only one out. Other key players both fielding and batting were third basemen Sebastian Hernandez, shortstop Issac Farris and first baseman Sean Cortez.
Jurado had determination on his side to pull his team out of the minor hole they dug themselves into.
“I was out of tune in the first inning. Luckily my infield bailed me out. I was finally able to find my rhythm towards the end of the bottom of the second. I was pretty nervous when the bases were loaded with with the the first second and third batters. I was able to regain my composure and strike the fourth and fifth batter out. Which I used that to push me through the whole game.” Jurado also has the game tying RBI when he hit a triple in the early fourth inning.
Third baseman Sebastian Hernandez did not let one ball get by him gunning five people out at first base.
“I knew what we were up against and what was at stake. We were not supposed to win this game but I am glad our team pulled together and showed poise to knock off the best team in the district.”
Head varsity baseball Coach Michael Beltran had good things to say about his JV team.
“These boys play with a lot of heart and are never timid. They are an aggressive young team made up of mostly freshmen and some sophomores. They are hungry and hope to make a bid for that district title.”
The boys next game will be at home against the Hanks Knights at 4:30 on April 2.
