The boys and girls varsity wrestling participated in the two-day Bowie tournament held Jan. 15-16 for all area teams. Both girls and boys came up big with winners between 1st place and 6th place. Overall boys finished third and girls finish sixth.

Senior Luis Casas placed first in the 132-lb. division.

“It takes a lot of hard work at practice and in the weight room,” Casas said.

Big winner also was  sophomore Christian Hernandez placed first in the 145-Ib. division.

“I felt confident and went in knowing I was going to do my best and come out on top,”  Hernandez said.

Girls varsity had three winners, Sophie Ruacho, Miah Klein and Lizbeth Nevarez. Junior Lizbeth Nevarez placed fourth in the 185-Ib. division.

She said she was disappointed in herself.

“I just didn’t work hard enough this week at practice. If I would of worked a little harder I would of won that first place.”
